September 2008
The below photo's are a photo journal for my website visitors to enjoy. I have been fortunate to have been able to travel from time to time and with each trip, I photograph turfgrass conditions that I encounter. I will continue this forum and add to the photo's (and of course soil profile samples) as I continue to travel from place to place.
September 2008 brought the Florida Turfgrass Association to the PGA National resort in Palm Beach Florida. | I led the sports turf tour at the Florida Turfgrass Association (FTGA) show, this is our group riding the bus to Miami. |
Our first stop on the FTGA Sports Turf Tour was Dolphin Stadium in Miami, FL. | This is Thomas Wilson, Tarp Crew Supervisor at Dolphin Stadium speaking to our group. Alan Sigwardt is Sports Turf Manager. |
This is the FTGA Sports Turf Tour on Dolphin Stadium Field. Thomas Wilson is talking about some of the maintenance that goes on during the season. The field is bermudagrass. | This is a photo of Dolphin Stadium Field set up for Baseball. In addition to being the home field for the Florida Marlins, the Miami Dolphins and University of Miami Hurricanes football teams also use this field. |
Another view from one of the Skyboxes at Dolphin Stadium showing the field set up for Baseball. | This is Thomas Wilson from Dolphin Stadium speaking to our tour group showing us the Prescription Athletic Field (PAT) system controllers as well as the irrigation controllers. |
This is the Florida Marlins visitor dugout at Dolphin Stadium during the FTGA Sports Turf Tour. | A tour of Dolphin Stadium would not be complete without a trip to the trophy room. This is the World Series Trophy that the Florida Marlins won in 1997. The Marlins also won again in 2003. |
The FTGA Sports Turf Tour next took us to Florida Atlantic University's campus in Boca Raton, FL. (FAU) | This is Mike Bell, Sports Turf Manager at Florida Atlantic University. Mike is speaking to our tour group. |
This is Florida Atlantic University's football coach Howard Schnellenberger. He was kind enough to speak to our group. | These are the practice football fields at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, FL. They are 419 Bermudagrass. |
This is the baseball stadium at Florida Atlantic University. | We also had a demonstration on mound repair by Ken Czerniak with Sports Turf Mgt Company. Ken is also contracted to maintain the ball fields at FAU. |
This is Ken Czerniak demonstrating the correct way to fix holes in the pitchers mound after a game. | Here is a soil profile sample take from the baseball stadium field at Florida Atlantic University. The Sample is extracted with the Mascaro Profile Sampler. |
