January - June 2002
The below photo's are a photo journal for my website visitors to enjoy. I have been fortunate to have been able to travel from time to time and with each trip, I photograph turfgrass conditions that I encounter. I will continue this forum and add to the photo's (and of course soil profile samples) as I continue to travel from place to place.
This is Boca Lago Country Club in Boca Raton Florida, David Court Superintendent. The golf course is 36 holes and located in the area of the country with the most golf courses per square mile of any other area so competition is fierce. | This is the University of Florida Research green in Davie, FL; during the Field Day. The orange squares are plots of an experimental coated sand material under development with Lysimeters installed below. They are also monitoring moisture with a Moisture Sensor. |
Dr. Phil Busey, University of Florida at the Field Day in Davie, FL showing an experimental plot of St. Augustine grass and Dollar Weed study with irrigation variables. | Development of the prototype Holey-Fier home lawn aerifier for spot aerification. |
Not all ball fields are created equal, This is a private school baseball field that gets little or no maintenance during off season activity. This is the view from home plate to third base. The primary grass is St. Augustine. | The need for a ASTM standard infiltration ring prompted me to invent the new Turf-Tec 12 inch and 24 inch infiltration rings. These ate used by scientists and soil engineers to determine infiltration rates for large scale projects. |
Soil profile of a Golf Green that is 20 years old showing the soil profile with the Mascaro Profile Sampler. | Soil profile of the same golf green after being renovated and replanted with one of the new ultra dwarf Bermuda grasses.. The profile is taken with the Mascaro Profile Sampler. |

This is the multi purpose ball field at the City of Coconut Creek, FL. Cliff Abrams, Sports Turf Manager. The fields here were constructed virtually flat which allows Cliff to move the field positions and spread wear more uniformly. |
