June - September 2004

The below photo's are a photo journal for my website visitors to enjoy.  I have been fortunate to have been able to travel from time to time and with each trip, I photograph turfgrass conditions that I encounter.  I will continue this forum and add to the photo's (and of course soil profile samples) as I continue to travel from place to place.

This is the tour I led for the Sports Turf Managers Association, Florida Chapter # 1. This is Florida International University (FIU) in Miami, FL. This is David Wyles, Ports Turf Manager leading us on a tour of his campus. This is Florida International University (FIU) in Miami, FL. This is the artificial turf field at their stadium.

This is a soil profile of the multipurpose field that was constructed about a month before these photos were taken. It is a sand based field that was sodded. This soil profile taken with the Heavy Duty Mascaro Profile Sampler.

October brought the second of four named hurricanes that came to Florida this year. Two of which impacted south Florida. We were lucky in Coral Springs with only minor damage to buildings and trees down. Another picture of hurricane Jeanne which winds blew 75 MPH for almost 24 hours causing wide spread tree damage. This tree outside the Heron Bay Country Club as snapped in half.

Some larger trees were also blown over like this Sea Grape tree at the Emerald Hills Country Club in Hollywood, FL. Bob Harper is superintendent here.

Here is some tree damage at Eagle Trace Country Club, Coral Springs, FL; sent to me by David Tandy, Superintendent. Trees that affected playability of the courses were that first priority to get the clubs open again.
