How To Analyze Common Turf Management
Problems on Golf Courses

After all other areas have been analyzed on your golf course, including the soil, water, grass, nutrition and they are all in good shape, you can be assured that the strength of your turfgrass management program is solid.  The next area that you should analyze is the management area of the golf course.

Management applies to thing that we cannot directly control.  We can control the type and health of our soil, the amount of air and water in our soil, the type of grass that we grow and the nutrition we give it, however there are many factors that influence the health of the grass beyond these controllable factors.  External factors such as wear, amount of sunlight, wind movement, rainfall and many other things all come into the realm of Management.  Below are some common problems that affect Golf Courses and some clever tools to aid in correcting these problems.

Ball marks

Ball marks are often the main problem on golf greens that cause maintenance problems as well as ball roll complaints from golfers. Sprinkler Heads

Sprinkler head maintenance is sometimes low on the priority list, however when a drought approaches, it is often brought to the forefront and becomes the difference between a successful operation and on that is not.  Turf-Tec offers three different ways to be sure your irrigation system is being maintained properly.  Two different trimming techniques, one manual and the other motor powered.  In addition, we have a cable locator to find lost valves or broken wires.

Dead grass and worn areas

DEAD AREAS occur for many reasons. A thorough investigation should be conducted to find out why the area died. All categories, including soil, water, grass, nutrition and management should be checked.

The Tubular Turf Plugger has a hollow handle that removes twenty 2 3/8 inch by 2 1/2 inch deep grass plugs out of a good area and then the plugs are simply put into the empty holes of a worn area.  The plugs are small enough that they cause the grass to rapidly expand into the areas until the whole section of dead grass is filled in.

This unit is heavy gauge welded steel with a replaceable heat treated cutter blade.

Flush Tee Markers

The Turf-Tec Flush Tee Markers are safe because golfers cannot trip over them and balls cannot bounce back and strike players, especially from back tee's.  They are aesthetically pleasing because the round, flat, flush with turf, is more pleasing to the eye then conventional markers. Flush tee markers blend in with the natural sculptured features of the course.

Flush Tee Markers will reduce maintenance costs because you can mow grass without moving them. The person cutting cups can than move the markers to insure proper yardage from tee to cup.
